In their first full-length documentary, The Jetlagged accompany manta ray researcher Elitza Germanov (Marine Megafauna Foundation) on a field trip in Komodo in Indonesia. Manta ray numbers are declining because their gills have recently become a dubious trend in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Numerous conservation efforts are taking place to protect the gentle ocean giants, including “Citizen Science” projects to identify individuals by their unique spot patterns on their bellies. The filmmakers document the efforts of scientists and conservationists in Indonesia like Elitza Germanov and Sarah Lewis (Indonesian Manta Project/Manta Trust), who are working tirelessly to save these beautiful animals from extinction.

Our world climate is changing, and the oceans are getting warmer. Coral bleaching is caused by high water temperatures and is one of the major threats to existing coral reefs. Losing reefs would have grave consequences for the marine biodiversity and a widespread cascade effect on other ecosystems – on land as well.
In 2016, The Jetlagged documented healthy reefs they have dived for years fading to white and die. The film The Pale Horse - A Coral Apocalypse explains why this is happening – and appeals: we still have time to save the reefs – if we change the way we treat our plant.
